It’s safe to assume this storyline is done.

Finally, finally, finally? This tired storyline of Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel being traded can come to an end.

The San Francisco 49ers have concluded Day 2 of the 2024 NFL draft, taking cornerback Renardo Green and offensive lineman Dominick Puni. There were trades to move back, but it involved the 49ers getting a fifth-rounder. Nothing of the sort involved trading a player, especially one of the value of Aiyuk, Samuel, or even Jauan Jennings.

It’s now the fourth round, folks. This storyline is done. Over. Closed. Those two (or three) are going nowhere. Breathe. Yes, the Pearsall pick meant something could happen, but nothing did.

The only way any of this can continue is if the 49ers run into a lost 2024 season and decide to make some moves. Usually, the 49ers are the ones who make such moves, such as Chase Young in 2023. For this scenario to happen, the 49ers would have to know they were out of playoff contention before the trade deadline.

Or someone comes to them now midseason with a huge offer for draft picks next year. That probably isn’t happening either.

Remember, these are just scenarios.

This means that for 2024, we should be seeing Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Ricky Pearsall, and Jauan Jennings in the wide receiver room. And that room has depth. With that crew and Christian McCaffrey, the 49ers have an embarrassment of riches. Are you excited to see how Brock Purdy does this? I sure am.

But that’s another topic for another time. What we need to discuss here is the end of the Brandon Aiyuk trade rumors, guest starring Deebo Samuel. Mike Silver reported that the Steelers had interest in Samuel but couldn’t meet the 49ers’ price. Whatever that was.

There also was that brief moment when the second round began, and the NFL announced a New England Patriots trade, which made many hearts stop in the faithful. The trade had nothing to do with the San Francisco 49ers. And then, finally, there was John Lynch’s press conference this evening, where he said they did not entertain any deals involving Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel.

Aiyuk and Samuel are going nowhere. That’s my overreaction to everything. They are staying put.

Now next year might be a different story. From what’s been out there, Pearsall could be the heir-apparent to Deebo Samuel. If that’s the case, the 49ers can trade Deebo next year.

But this is 2024. The 49ers are deep in the wide receiver room, and this storyline can finally, finally end.

So now what do you guys want to talk about?
