San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told the media on Monday morning that quarterback Brock Purdy was “complaining of some soreness in his toe.”

Purdy told Shanahan after the fact on the phone Sunday night: “He didn’t indicate it to me during the game. Talked to him on the phone last night and said it was starting to bother him. But nothing during the game.”

Purdy will be monitored throughout the week.

Watching Purdy on Sunday left you wondering if he was fully healed. After all, he had just two carries, and after his 11-yard scramble, it looked like Purdy was a bit gimpy. Multiple inaccurate throws, specifically the way the ball consistently sailed high to his intended targets, made you think the 49ers quarterback’s toe affected his mechanics. Postgame, Purdy said, “I don’t know the answer to that. But, obviously, I’m going to watch this film, look at my mechanics and be real with myself to try to fix that.”

Since it’s so early, the 49ers have yet to receive the MRIs and tests back from Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings:

“But anytime you have a Thursday game, it’s a totally different element. So, I’m concerned with anybody who’s not totally healthy at this moment, but we’ll have to get more information on that later today to really have a clue of what to speculate.”

Jennings came into Sunday with a shoulder and ankle injury. Now he adds a rib injury after the hit he took on the two-point conversion.

Pearsall still needs to get his knee checked out. Shanahan’s initial suspicion was that Pearsall had a “minor” PCL injury:

“They’re thinking more of a minor PCL or something like that is what our guess is, just landing on it hard. Hopefully it won’t be too bad. Obviously, a huge concern with the Thursday night game and stuff, but we’re not expecting it to be too bad.”

The 49ers are hopeful safety Malik Mustapha can begin practicing after Week 6. If the team opens Mustapha’s window, it would give him three weeks to return to action. Based on the way Jason Pinnock is playing, Mustapha’s return would be a massive boost for the secondary.

We will provide updates once they become available regarding the injuries to Pearsall, Purdy, and Jennings. As it stands, they’ll all likely be listed as questionable on the injury report. It’s shaping up to be quite the revenge game for Demarcus Robinson this Thursday.
