There’s one more big name we’re waiting for in the next couple weeks.

The 2019 NFL Draft has another quarterback in the mix for the first round. Duke quarterback Daniel Jones informed his head coach that he will enter the draft this coming April, according to ACC sportswriter Stephen Wiseman.

This news comes a week after Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert announced plans to return to school for one more year. Herbert was viewed as arguably the top quarterback prospect in this year’s draft, but could now be in line to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Jones is not a surprising development, but now the big wait is for Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins. There are some who think Haskins would be the top quarterback on the board, and Jones would be competing with Will Grier (West Virginia) and Drew Lock (Missouri) to be next off the board.

The cupboard is a little thin, but that won’t stop teams from reaching in hopes of finding their franchise quarterback. The top of the draft order features a host of teams that will not be drafting quarterback. That includes the Cardinals, 49ers, Jets, and Raiders in the top four. The Bucs seem unlikely to spend a first round pick on a quarterback, but then we get to the Giants and Jaguars, both of whom need a long-term solution at the position. Maybe one of them is willing to move up the draft board to make it happen.

We’ve got four months until the 2019 NFL Draft, so a lot will change in assessments of the top of the draft board. We’ve got the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, Shrine Game and Senior Bowl coming up in January. Then we’ve got the Combine in late February, followed by NFL free agency and college Pro Days in March. It wraps up with private visits and workouts in late March and into April before finally the draft arrives. Plenty will change.
