Emmanuel Sanders finally has a number with the 49ers after landing with the club via trade Wednesday. He’ll wear No. 17, the number he wore in college. That number previously belonged to rookie wide receiver Jalen Hurd.
Hurd took No. 14 after he sold 17 to the veteran receiver.
“I had to pay for it, but it’s all good,” Sanders told media members per Matt Barrows of the Athletic.
A dollar amount wasn’t disclosed.
Sanders had worn No. 10 during his six-year stint with the Broncos. That number belongs to Jimmy Garoppolo, so he wasn’t going to get it in San Francisco. Sanders wore No. 88 his first four years with the Steelers.
Sanders took the field in his brand new No. 17 for the first time Wednesday. Head coach Kyle Shanahan expects Sanders to be on the field Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
