It was a rough first couple weeks as a head coach for former 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans, but he got into the win column for the first time Sunday in a 37-17 thumping of their division rival Jaguars in Jacksonville.

The victory erased a forgettable first two games for Ryans and the Texans. They were dropped by the Ravens 25-9 in Week 1, and then taken down by the Colts 31-20 in Week 2.

In Week 3 though Ryans’ group was dominant from the outset and never trailed.

It’s not a surprise to anyone who watched Ryans’ rapid rise on the 49ers’ coaching staff that he’d come up with such a huge win so early in his coaching career. Houston may be in the early stages of a rebuild, but it’s clear after Sunday that Ryans has them going the right direction.
