The Hall of Fame awaits.
The Miami Dolphins will not be re-signing Frank Gore this year. The future Hall of Famer is taking his talents north, signing a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills worth $2 million, per Adam Schefter.
Gore injured his foot last year, costing him the final two games of the season and his first missed games since 2010. He had a resurgence last year in beating out Kenyan Drake in that committee situation. He rushed for 722 yards, averaging 4.6 per carry and scoring five times. He finished the season ranked fourth all-time with 14,748 rushing yards, and is 521 yards back of Barry Sanders for third all-time.
Gore joins a backfield that was mediocre last season. LeSean McCoy average 3.2 yards per carry on 514 rushing yards, Chris Ivory averaged 3.3 yards per carry on 385 yards, and Marcus Murphy average 4.8 yards per carry on 250 yards. The Bills leading rusher was Josh Allen, with 631 yards averaging 7.1 yards per carry.
I would have to think the Bills want to invest a little more in the running back position, but for the time being, Gore seems to be the best option there. Since averaging 5.4 yards per carry in 2016, McCoy has seen his numbers decline each of the past two years. Gore is not a long-term answer, but could provide a spark that McCoy seems to be lacking. The Bills have said McCoy will be back, but with a $9,050,000 cap hit in 2019, maybe it’s time to move on.
