Donte Whitner breaks down where 49ers have ‘tremendous edge’ over Eagles
“Whitner thinks that if Brock Purdy has solid protection, he’ll go at Bradberry. While he’ll have to deliver the ball quickly on out routes that Bradberry likes to sit on, he thinks Purdy will have opportunities in the Cover-2 “honey hole.”
Without star safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson — who signed with the Lions this offseason — Whitner also thinks that the Eagles have no ball-hawking presence back deep.”
49ers activate Robert Beal Jr., place George Odum on injured reserve
“The team is holding out hope Odum will be able to return to action at some point this season following surgery.”
Hasson Reddick calls out 49ers for ‘a lot of crying’ after NFC Championship loss to Eagles
“He accused the 49ers of “crying,” and essentially said, let’s see what happens this time around. It’s hard to argue with the idea that the 49ers are the ones that need to prove themselves.”
49ers vs. Eagles story lines: Real trash talk and legit MVP candidates (paywall)
“It was notable that Samuel and Aiyuk were the most outspoken after last season’s loss to the Eagles. The 49ers clearly believed they could take advantage of Philadelphia’s secondary. And that probably hasn’t changed.
The Eagles have allowed the second-most passing touchdowns (23) in the NFL, are allowing the fourth-most passing yards per game (255.7) and opposing QBs have a 94.8 passer rating, the seventh-highest in the league.
Bradberry and Darius Slay remain the Eagles’ cornerbacks. Philadelphia did address its back end by trading for Tennessee Pro Bowl safety Kevin Byard in October.
In January, Purdy was injured when he had Aiyuk open for a potential 50-yard touchdown pass down the left sideline after the wideout left Bradberry in his wake.
“Brandon was one-on-one, actually beat the corner pretty good, and I should have just trusted him off one hitch and thrown it,” Purdy said. “I took a second hitch and right there is when I got hurt.”
