Golden Nuggets: 49ers attend Alabama’s pro day

NFL free agency’s 1st week was a whirlwind of moves for the 49ers. They were able to bring in help at some of their top needs with contracts that they can get out of quickly if the players do not work out. Dee Ford is an immediate impact player that they brought on to help in the pass rush, which was the biggest need. He had an outstanding season with the Chiefs last season and the 49ers will hope he continues that trend. LB Kwon Alexander and CB Jason Verrett are good players if they can stay on the field. The pairing of Kwon with Fred Warner will give the 49ers one of the fastest linebacking corps in the league. With these 3 pickups, the 49ers should have upgraded their defense from last season.

The defense may have been upgraded in free agency, but the 49ers still have the draft to continue to upgrade it. Holding the #2 pick gives the 49ers a shot at Nick Bosa or Quinnen Williams, who are regarded as the top 2 defensive players in this draft. The 49ers attended Alabama’s pro day on Tuesday. Most experts have the 49ers selecting Nick Bosa to help with the edge pass rush, but pairing Quinnen with DeForest Buckner would also be a nice upgrade on the line.

After shaking up the training staff over the offseason, the 49ers announced the hiring of Dustin Little as the new head athletic trainer. He spent the last 5 seasons with the Denver Broncos with a few different job titles over the years. Quite a few players were injured last year and the 49ers will hope that the new training staff can keep the players off injury reserve.
