A daily compilation of 49ers news from around the net. Sunday, February 24th, 2019 edition.

Good morning folks, and a happy Sunday to you. As the NFL combine looms on the horizon, today seems like a great day to go over the important dates and events that will be coming up. Although the combine technically starts on Tuesday, February 26th (it’s so close!), nothing of immense value will actually take place until Thursday, February 28th.

Day 1, Tuesday, February 26th

On Tuesday the kickers, offensive linemen, and running backs will arrive. Subsequent to that arrival, other positional groups arrive each day in a staggered manner.

Day 3, Thursday, February 28th

It isn’t until the third day that the offensive linemen will perform their bench press, and the kickers will go through their on-field workouts. That same day, however, the WR group and QBs will go through measurements, which should be of vital importance to 49ers fans. I’ve been harping for the last month that the WR corps is the group to watch at the combine, as their movement affects our 2nd round pick the most.

Considering that this is a very long class of WRs, their heights and weights will ultimately be an important factor is putting together the hierarchy. Furthermore, we’ll have a definitive answer on the height of QB Kyler Murray, the 2018 Heisman Trophy winner whose draft stock seemingly depends entirely on his height. If he can crack 5’10”, there’s a good chance the 49ers #2 overall pick becomes more valuable, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Day 5, Saturday, March 2nd

This is likely the most important day of the combine. Defensive linemen get their bench presses in, WRs run their speed and agility trials, and DBs get measured. To state the obvious, strength is important to defensive linemen, and Robert Saleh’s system places an emphasis on the length of the corners, making those two items a must-peruse. However, the speed and agility trials for the WRs will be key to the entire draft. As mentioned, the top WR prospects for 2019 are, on average, about as large as I’ve ever seen, so it’s natural that virtually all of them have questions regarding their downfield speed or short-area movement. There will be plenty to sift through once the numbers are released.
