Your San Francisco 49ers links for Saturday, March 30, 2019

Word came out today from a John Lynch KNBR interview that the Giants were indeed wanting that No. 2 pick the 49ers had in exchange for Odell Beckham Jr. I’ve argued that that pick just isn’t for sale on its own without a decent trade back and John Lynch agreed.

If the 49ers were to give up a future first and swap firsts this year for OBJ? It might hurt, but that’s a deal I could get behind. But getting fleeced for the No. 2 overall pick for OBJ? Uh no. [site-decorum] no. OBJ may be the best wide receiver in the league, but the No. 2 pick is not worth it in the situation the 49ers are in. They have several holes that need plugged and wide receiver is a luxury. It’s a need, but not near as much as a pass rusher and giving up the No. 2 pick straight up would hurt them more than help them. Really can’t be mad at the Giants in this either, they had OBJ and wanted to be compensated adequately. Be mad at the Browns for swooping in and having a later pick that made more sense to offload for OBJ.

Still, what the hell are the Giants doing? I understand the argument that Beckham wants to go to a contender, and that maybe the Giants were sick of his act, but you’re about to get a new quarterback. Or you were if you’d just bite the bullet and shoo Eli Manning along. Wouldn’t you want you new quarterback to get some confidence with one of the best wide receivers in the league? Then again, I’m no football coach or front office executive.

In case you’re curious, I didn’t bullseye the compensation of this near as well as I did with Antonio Brown. I said I’d give up 2019 second, a 2019 sixth, and a swap of 2019 first-round picks. Way off. I felt that offer, given where the 49ers were picking, was fair.

From what Lynch’s deal was speculated as, I can get behind that one as well. I can’t get behind blindly giving up the No. 2 pick. Far too valuable.

As far as Antonio Brown? Well I imagine the Pittsburgh Steelers called Lynch and that quick look was him saying, “One second,” pulling this up and then two seconds later saying, “ehhh naahhhh.”
