A daily compilation of 49ers news from around the net. Monday, March 4th, 2019 edition.

Sunday was yet another day in a solid chain of football news! Agility and speed tests were recorded for defensive linemen and linebackers, which should end up as the most scrutinized set of combine results by 49ers fans this cycle. Several things stood out, notably the 40 time for DT Quinnen Williams, who clocked a sub-4.9 second attempt. Obviously, the 40 yard dash means exceedingly little for defensive tackles, but it’s an impressive feat of athleticism nevertheless for the 300-plus pounder.

Nick Bosa put together an admirable combine, surpassing his brother’s 2016 results in the 40-yard dash, 10-yard split, 20-yard shuttle, and bench press, but falling short by a wide margin in the 3-cone drill. This seems to run counter to the general narrative that Joey Bosa is the more powerful of the two, while Bosa the younger is considered the more agile. The concept of “any given Sunday” applies here as well, I suppose. However, his combine performance was generally excellent, and he will remain a (if not “the) premier prospect in the 2019 draft.

Speaking of, there are some weird rumors floating out there that Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury has committed to drafting Kyler Murray at the #1 overall pick. Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely on board with this coming to fruition, as the pros certainly outweigh the cons as far as the 49ers are concerned. However, the report is unsubstantiated by audio or video means, and the whole thing is slightly fishy, albeit intriguing. Should the Cardinals burn the first overall pick on Murray, that would open the door for a multitude of scenarios for the 49ers, especially drafting Nick Bosa straight up.

Finally, mention should be made that the 49ers extended guard Mike Person on a 3 year contract. His compensation is in the $9 million range over the life of the deal, making him an extremely economical option as a league-average starting guard, or a fairly paid interior OL backup of rare value. Person will turn 31 before the season begins, so there’s a distinct possibility he plays out the contract, as 34 isn’t outlandishly ancient for offensive linemen. The signing brings into question the future of former-first round selection Joshua Garnett, although the team-friendly value of the contract might not necessarily preclude Garnett from earning an extension, should he perform well in 2019.
