A daily compilation of 49ers news from around the net. Thursday, February 28th, 2019 edition.

Good morning folks, and a happy Thursday to you. Out of nowhere, it was quite a busy day in the 49ers media. My thought process was that the extent of football news today would be that certain linemen at the combine had shorts arms, or weighed significantly more than their college bios claimed, and thankfully, I was totally wrong. Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters today, and shed light on many of the questions that have been weighing on us. There’s a surprising amount to read today, so let’s get to summarizing.

First, and most importantly, Jimmy Garoppolo is apparently ahead of schedule in recovering from his torn ACL, according to Shanahan. The team is set to begin offseason workouts on April 15th, so we’ll have slightly more concrete information at that time. For now, Shanahan’s expectation is that Garoppolo will be ready to go for OTAs, which have yet to be announced, but will likely be held towards the end of May.

It seems as though a deal with Arik Armstead will not be made, and the defensive end will play the 2019 season on the fifth year option. Although the deadline to commit to the option salary is March 13th, the team has apparently prepared to accept the sizable contract. Furthermore, Shanahan’s choice of words seemed to intimate that trading him is not a scenario that is actively being explored. Of course, it is offseason and anything that anyone says is probably a smokescreen.

Shanahan touched on Joshua Garnett as well, stating that he’s expecting big things from the guard in the upcoming year. He lamented Garnett’s inability to stay healthy, but praised the former Cardinal lineman’s limited performance in 2018. With Mike Person slated to become a free agent, there remain serious questions about the state of the interior offensive line.

Coach also formally announced the changes to the team’s coaching, training, and medical staff, although no new information was made available. He went on to discuss the Antonio Brown saga, claiming that he was not one of the three (or more, at this point) teams to reach out regarding the mercurial wide receiver. Finally, Richard Sherman spelled out the roadmap to signing Earl Thomas: pay him more than the Cowboys will.

Happy reading, all!
