A daily compilation of 49ers news from around the net. Thursday, April 4th. 2019 edition.

Good morning folks, and a happy Thursday to you. Unfortunately, it’s going to be a rather abbreviated edition today, as I’ve got exams this week and sleep is at an absolute premium. Yesterday, the 49ers completed a two-day visit with edge rusher Josh Allen. I’m not entirely sure how often official pre-draft visits end up being a two day affair, but this is sure to stoke a fire in the Bosa vs. Allen camps. Obviously, he’ll be visiting with other teams, and the 49ers will host other players, but I’m sure the long, hard look at him will make a difference in some way.

Tomorrow, the 49ers are expected to meet with a pair of special teams specialists in Houston. Long snapper Chris Wilkerson and punter Jack Fox will be made available to team representatives, in advance of Saturday’s local pro-day at Rice University. Of course, the team is likely to draft a punter this year after allowing Bradley Pinion to walk in free agency. Pinion, a former 5th rounder, replaced fan-favorite and all-pro Andy “Death Star” Lee, and went on to post nothing but average to below-average stat lines.

To wrap things up, the 49ers will reportedly decline to bring in Rashan Gary for a pre-draft visit. I’m sure somebody out there might have some feelings on this, maybe. Personally, it sounds like a solid plan to me – I’m pretty certain Gary is overrated if he’s still being talked about as a first rounder. In a year with so many incredible edge prospects clustered at the top of the draft, there’s no excuse in filling a premium position of need with one of the weakest top-end options.
