A daily compilation of 49ers news from around the net. Sunday, March 17th, 2019 edition.

Good morning folks, tonight’s edition will be short and sweet. The 49ers have reached their first noticeable break in free agency, as the team made no moves on Saturday. As the meat and potatoes of this portion of the offseason begins to wind down, the pool of possible signings has reached that unusual plateau, where certain names sparkle on the list – “Wow, how is Eric Berry a free agent? Clay Matthews? Ndamukong Suh?”

Names that used to dominate headlines. These were elite players that every fan wished (secretly, in Suh’s case) to have on their team. Now? Well, they manage to headline a list of the scraps remaining after the free agent frenzy. It takes little more than the most cursory of information gathering to realize why they remain. These guys are old. They’ve been injured. The production has been slowing down noticeably for years – Berry’s last noticeably good campaign was 2016. Suh and Matthews haven’t had outstanding seasons since 2014.

It’s undignified to see Clay Matthews, to see Eric Berry remaining on the list this far into it. Personally, it was always a matter of “I might dislike (player), but hot darn, the things I would give to have them on the squad!”. These guys are available now, and I can realistically muster little more than “Is vet minimum going to be an option here?”
