Good morning folks, and a happy Monday to you. Like that, the excitement of the free agency period has come to a grinding halt, although there are likely more signings to trickle in through the upcoming weeks. As we’ve entered another lull in the offseason process, let’s look ahead to what remains on the horizon.
Obviously, the next major date to keep in mind is April 25, 2019, which marks the beginning of the 2019 draft. However, there are a few other important dates between now and then to keep an eye on. The annual league meeting will begin next Sunday, March 24th, in which the owners will gather in Phoenix, AZ to discuss the state of the league going forward. The major topic expected to be discussed at this year’s meeting is an overhaul of the replay system, in which a ‘sky judge’ may be appointed, as well as an expansion of replay to include, well, any play.
After that, the next date to remember is April 15th, when the 49ers are able to begin their offseason workout programs. This doesn’t include practices, rather just an opportunity for players to start getting back into shape. While not a major event, it should give us some information on the status of returning players who had experienced injuries throughout the 2018 season, notably QB Jimmy Garoppolo, RB Jerick McKinnon, and red-shirt freshman DL Kentavius Street.
