San Francisco 49ers links for Friday March 1, 2019

There has recently been a lot of hype about the 49ers getting either Antonio Brown or Odell Beckham Jr. I can see people’s points. We have apparently given up on Pierre Garcon and we are in need of a replacement. While Marquise Goodwin, Dante Pettis, Kendrick Bourne, Richie James and Trent Taylor are all good players, it would be nice to have a wide receiver of the caliber of Brown or Beckham.

On the other hand I am pretty sure Kyle Shanahan drafted Dante Pettis to be the 49ers playmaker of the future and I think Dante was beginning to live up to Kyle’s expectations toward the end of the season. I admit I have a huge amount of faith in Shanahan’s ability to find and coach up wide receivers which makes me a bit of a homer when it comes to Pettis’ future. I don’t know if he will ever become a perennial all pro but I do expect him to become one of the better wide receivers in the league.

Quite a few people on Niners Nation have mentioned that we still need a big wide receiver and I tend to agree with them. Fortunately there are a few of these big wide receivers that are expected to go early in this year’s draft. My favorite is DK Metcalf. I think that guy is the real deal and could be the best big wide receiver since Julio Jones. Unfortunately I also think we need to pick an edge player with our #2 pick and DK Metcalf is going to go in the first round. I personally think he would be worth spending whatever it takes to move up to get him. To me he is that final piece in our offensive puzzle and is worth whatever it takes to get him. I wonder what Kyle Shanahan thinks of him?

Here is a list of wide receivers over six foot one inches tall that are expected to go on days one or two of the draft, perhaps you have your own favorite?

  • DK Metcalf 6’3
  • N’Keal Harry 6’2
  • Emanuel Hall 6’2
  • JJ Arcega-Whiteside 6’2
  • Jalen Hurd 6’5
  • Anthony Johnson 6’2
  • Kelvin Harmon 6’2
  • Lil’Jordan Humphrey 6’4
  • Hakeem Butler 6’5
  • Antoine Wesley 6’4
