The #2 pick that the San Francisco 49ers currently possess is likely to be used on a defensive player or depending on the #1 pick could be traded for multiple picks. But one thing is clear, the 49ers will be drafting a receiver in this draft and it will probably be in an earlier round. This week the 49ers are hosting some of the top talent at the position for pre-draft visits.
Hakeem Butler, N’Keal Harry, AJ Brown, and Deebo Samuel either already visited with the team this week or are scheduled to visit. The team has had a rough go for years on selecting receivers in the draft. The receivers they have drafted had various degrees of success, but none have been great. They are consistently looking for their #1 receiver through the draft and free agency, but they have not been able to fill that void. In last year’s draft, the 49ers selected Dante Pettis and while he dealt with injuries, he did perform well down the stretch. They are hoping he can stay healthy and continue to progress this season. They would like to add another WR to pair with Jimmy Garoppolo and Pettis to take their passing attack to another level.
Jerry Rice is the greatest WR in NFL history and he is the gold standard for 49ers receivers. One draft visitor decided to give the infamous hill that Jerry Rice and Roger Craig used to run up a try with Jerry. AJ Brown, WR from Ole Miss, tackled the famous hill yesterday. AJ is one of the top WRs in the upcoming draft and if he is taken by the 49ers, he can run the hill as often as he would like.
