The 49ers are picking at No. 2. We can expect that pick to happen pretty quick.

The San Francisco 49ers are picking at No. 2 in the first round of the NFL Draft. Unlike last year, when the team picked ninth overall, there won’t be much of a wait for the 2019 selection. The draft starts at 5 p.m. PT. Each team gets 10 minutes to select a player. So if you are running late from work, or if you are cutting it close in general, you have a little bit of leeway. Barring a trade, and assuming the Arizona Cardinals take the entire time they are allotted, the 49ers will pick at 5:10 p.m.

The entire draft is 3+ hours. It’s a long night and a lot of waiting. I’m always curious on whether a fan of a team that picks early, like the Niners, will watch the entire draft. Then there’s the other side of the coin, will a Kansas City Chiefs fan tune in for the entire draft?

The 10 minutes of time used to be 15 minutes during the first round back in 2008. The Minnesota Vikings infamously ran out of time during the 2003 draft and were forced to pass on their first-round pick. The year prior, the Vikings submitted a name for the player that they wanted at No. 7. There was a trade between the teams picking sixth and eighth. The team that traded up to No. 6 had already selected the player that Minnesota wanted. Tough sledding for the Vikings.

You can watch the draft on ESPN or NFL Network. Here is a link to a fubo stream as well.
