They already weren’t a bad team, just an unlucky one.

Ladies and Gentleman, we have our 2019 San Francisco 49ers. At least until we get to the 53-man roster. Sure, there may be some additional free agent acquisitions here and there (especially with Jimmie Ward fracturing his collarbone), but we have seen needs addressed and a team geting stronger.

The question is, how improved do you think they are?

The folks over at Sports Illustrated’s MMQB put together a list of the most improved teams in the 2019 offseason and put the 49ers on the list. Robert Klemko was the one who wrote the snippet on the 49ers and here’s what he said about their activity in 2019:

“I don’t like paying Kwon Alexander Top 10 linebacker money, but I loved everything else the Niners did this offseason. Dee Ford was an elite edge rusher in 2018 and should be motivated by the Chiefs’ willingness to deal him despite being on the cusp of a Super Bowl berth last winter. Pairing him with No. 2 overall pick Nick Bosa was a no-brainer, and suddenly the 49ers’ pass rush looks like a Top 10 unit, at least on paper. Adding running back Tevin Coleman at two years, $8.5 million is viewed as a steal around the league. Of course, the 49ers are counting on the biggest difference from 2018 to be the health of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who suffered a season-ended leg injury three games into the season. He’s the main reason Vegas is betting on San Francisco to add more wins than any other team in 2019.”

The 49ers were already viewed as a strong team in 2018, then Jimmy Garoppolo tore his ACL and the season was pretty much lost. If this was a plot by the universe to hand the 49ers the 2019 draft that they had, where Nick Bosa was taken second overall, then maybe things have worked out for the best.

The 49ers were already not a ‘bad’ team. They just had a lot of bad luck. But now they may have gotten even better. How improved do you think they are?
