The 49ers are in a good position at No. 2, but it could get even better if a QB-hungry team gets desperate.

The 2019 NFL Draft is four months away, but the more important date is a week from today. Monday, January 14th is the deadline for underclassmen to declare for the draft, and we are waiting on one particularly notable name. Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins has yet to announce his decision for 2019, and if he decides to go pro, he could be the guy who creates trade scenarios for the top two or three teams in the draft.

Haskins had a great performance in the Rose Bowl, throwing three touchdown passes in a win over Washington. If he decides to go pro, he will be competing with the likes of Drew Lock (Missouri) and Daniel Jones (Duke) among others to be the first quarterback off the board. A strong pre-draft process could very well result in Haskins convincing a team they need to trade with the Cardinals or 49ers to get their man.

SB Nation’s Dan Kadar is back with his latest 2019 NFL mock draft, and his top two remain the same from last week: Arizona takes Nick Bosa, San Francisco takes Josh Allen. Unlike last week’s mock, this week sees Kadar offer some thoughts on Haskins implications at the 49ers pick.

The 49ers should be figuring out how to get the Giants and Jaguars working against each other for a trade up for Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins. Moving back from the second pick to the sixth or seventh carries a risk, but the draft capital would help San Francisco accelerate its rebuild. If the team holds at No. 2, it will likely be choosing between Allen and Williams. Both have their merits. Allen just offers a little more than the 49ers don’t currently have.

The 49ers likely would not land Allen if they moved down to No. 6 or No. 7, but there are two reasons to make the move. It’s a deep class with some impressive options, and they would potentially also get a nice haul of picks to boost their rebuild this year and likely next year with a potential first round pick.

If Bosa goes No. 1, would you prefer taking Allen (or someone else) or moving down for some kind of draft pick haul and not getting the guy you’d want at No. 2?
