Jimmy Garoppolo practiced for the second day while Trey Lance did not

The 49ers returned to practice Thursday afternoon but were without their best offensive player, left tackle Trent Williams. The team announced Williams has an ankle sprain and is day-to-day.

According to the reporters on hand during Thursday’s practice, Williams was not on crutches, and his injury doesn’t appear severe. However, Williams hasn’t practiced two days in a row after practicing Monday. We’ll see if he gives it a go on Friday. Williams falls under the category of players who don’t need to practice to play.

Defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw (knee) and quarterback Trey Lance (knee) sat out of practice for the second day in a row. Lance’s injury was initially announced as 1-2 weeks, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the rookie missed Sunday’s game against the Colts.

There wasn’t a timetable given for Kinlaw, who has yet to miss a game. Kinlaw has had multiple games this season where he didn’t practice and was active the following Sunday. With the way Johnathan Taylor and the Colts running game can get going, the 49ers need Kinlaw’s presence in the middle.

Jimmy Garoppolo practiced for the second day in a row. He’s trending towards starting as he deals with a calf injury.

Indianapolis received terrible news as their starting safety Justin Blackmon tore his ACL during Wednesday’s practice. In addition, T.Y. Hilton has a quad injury and didn’t practice for the second day in a row, as did cornerback Rock Ya-SIn, who is dealing with an ankle injury. Hilton told reporters that he’s “50/50” for Sunday night. He has a long history of playing without practicing.
