There are worse career paths to follow than Alvin Kamara’s. The Saints’ running back has been nearly unstoppable as a runner and receiver through his first two NFL seasons. Newest 49ers wide receiver Jalen Hurd is following Kamara’s career verbatim so far.

NFL Research posted an incredible parallel between the two  former Tennessee Volunteers:

So Hurd left Tennessee for Baylor after the 2016 season because Kamara was cutting into his carries.

Kamara entered the 2017 draft and went to the Saints at pick No. 67, which belonged to the 49ers via their first-round trade with the Chicago Bears.

Two years later, the 49ers owned the No. 67 pick again and used it on Hurd, who’d converted to wide receiver during his final season at Baylor.

Obviously the direct comparisons will stop there, but the connection between the two right up to the pick that was used to draft them is wild. They’ll play two different positions in the NFL, but Kamara stepped in and immediately started producing at an elite level. The 49ers will take it if Hurd follows that trend and puts up Rookie of the Year numbers in Year 1.
