John Lynch, Chris Forester spotted at University of Washington pro day

The 49ers GM and the 49ers Offensive line coach. What could they be looking for?

The NFL draft is less than two weeks away and it’s getting to the final moments of where players can show their stuff to NFL scouts. The San Francisco 49ers were spotted in Seattle, Washington at the University of Washington’s pro day. Obviously they’d send someone to the pro day of the runner-up in the College Football National Championship, but there were some pretty big VIPs there: 49ers general manager John Lynch and offensive line coach Chris Forester.

Matt Barrows reported that the pair looked at several UW players. If Chris Forrester is with John Lynch, that might put some emphasis on the offensive line prospects Troy Fautanu and Roger Rosengarten.

Fautanu is thought to be the first of the two off the board when draft day comes. Some have said he could be a surprise late first round pick, but expect him to go to the middle of the second round. If the draft plays out like expected (which it 100% never does), that puts Fautanu right into the 49ers’ range. A trade back could even be in order if they think he can last into the second round.

Rosengarten is thought to go back just a bit more and could last until the end of Day 3. It’s been cited that his worst game came against Michigan in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Michigan which may not bode well when the pressure mounts in the postseason.

From what’s been said about both prospects they have tremendous upside, but it’s going to take a year or two for them to develop into a dependable starter. That works if one of them are drafted to be the Trent Williams heir-apparent. They also could compete with Colton McKivitz for the right tackle position in 2024. The bad part is, they’d be competing with Colton McKivitz, and from what you have said in the comments, you’d rather have someone who can be plugged in on that side of the line immediately.

Unless the 49ers make some crazy trade, they aren’t getting both of them. Who would you want them to be focusing on, Rosengarten or Fautanu?
