The 49ers aren’t in a position to overlook any of the top pass rushing prospects in this year’s draft. That includes Kentucky outside linebacker Josh Allen, who had a two-day visit with San Francisco that finished Wednesday.

Allen is a popular prospect at the top of this year’s draft. He’s widely considered the second-best edge player behind Bosa. He’ll visit with the Lions, Bengals, Buccaneers, Jaguars, Bills, Giants, Jets and Raiders – all teams picking in the top 11.

It’s conceivable that Allen is the pick for San Francisco in the event that Nick Bosa goes first overall, or they trade back. The Kentucky product posted 17 sacks last season to give him 31 in his final 39 college games.

Allen’s versatility could be intriguing to the 49ers who could still use an upgrade at strong side linebacker. He could play there in base downs while dropping his hand in the grass as a defensive end in sub packages.

The scenario where the 49ers wind up with Allen isn’t extremely likely, but the result of his two-day visit in San Francisco could be the difference in whether they pursue him.
