Shanahan said that everyone has been asking him this

Last week on the Adam Schefter podcast, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan made a cameo. Shanahan talked about plans for the draft and just how close the team was to making a major splash this offseason. More and more news is getting leaked on what would have been a potential trade with a wide receiver from the New York Giants. Shanahan wanted to talk about players that are actually on the 49ers, as do I.

One of the hot topics surrounding the Niners has been who will get the lion-share of carries next year. Shanahan had the perfect answer:

“Everyone keeps asking me that like I’m in charge of that or something. It’s up to the players. They will define their roles. That’s kind of what’s unique about this.”

One thing Shanahan likes about the bunch is their speed.

“They all can do a bunch of different things,” Shanahan said. “The one thing that they have in common is they all run 4.40 or less so I don’t have to look back there to see if I have a slow guy or a fast guy, they are all fast.”

Another question has been whether the team would have four running backs active on game day. They did last year, and that doesn’t look like it’s changing in 2019.

“They come in different sizes, they do different types of routes,” Shanahan said. “We played with four running backs last year so I’m not going sit here and try to think about what to do with four running backs, we might need them all.”
