Stop me if you’ve heard this one before…

With all this Kyler Murray hubbub, drafts have been starting to factor in trades for a high enough draft pick capable of securing his services. This draft, put together by CBS Sports’ Jared Dubin has trades, just not to the first pick. This of course leaves the Arizona Cardinals making a selection and—wait for it—they select Nick Bosa. Here’s what Dubin says about the selection we are all too familiar with:

Given the way teams tend to prioritize the drafting of quarterbacks, I still think the most likely scenario has the Cardinals trading down out of this spot for multiple picks. For now, though, we have them sticking here and taking the top prospect on the board in order to begin rebuilding their defense.

Many of us (this writer included) have said that Bosa in the Cardinals’ 3-4 might be a mistake. Well, Cardinals defensive coordinator Vance Joseph said 4-3 ends can play 3-4 linebacker so perhaps that might be an incorrect assessment. The only hope now is Quinnen Williams having a lights out combine so the Cardinals can go for their need rather than best player available.

So that leaves the shocker of a pick, Josh Allen to the 49ers.

Kyle Shanahan can turn pretty much any pieces into a good offense, but his team badly needs help pressuring the edge on the other side of the ball. Enter Allen, who provides something much different than any of the 49ers’ recent defensive-line draft picks and makes for a perfect fit in defensive coordinator Robert Saleh’s system.

As is per the tradition being set, Quinnen Williams went to the New York Jets at No. 3 and the Oakland Raiders traded with the New York Giants. The Giants then went on to select Dwayne Haskins.

Once the Combine gets going at the end of the month, we’ll see some things changing, but for now it’s the Bosa/Allen connection. If either of the quarterbacks or Williams have a good combine, perhaps we’ll see more shift in the Williams to Arizona camps or blockbuster trades to secure a quarterback.
