The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones, on Thursday morning, got off to a bizarre start that very few could shake off. According to Russini, Jones saw a dead body floating in the water on the balcony of his hotel room:
That morning at the team hotel in Marina del Rey, Jones told teammates he was on his balcony when he looked out at the water and saw a floating dead body. Someone called the police. As the 49ers loaded buses for the stadium, players watched investigators and even a coroner’s van pull into the marina. On Friday afternoon, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said the incident was still under investigation.
Think about how Jones would go about processing that on the morning of the biggest start in his NFL career. And his teammates were wondering what in the world happened in the area they were staying in the night before. As of Friday, the police said the situation was still under investigation.
Jones went out and handled business on Thursday night, giving the 49ers a game of cushion in the division. His performance is even more impressive, knowing how Jones’ morning went.
