Well then, that is going to be a haul.

I know what you all want this morning: let’s do a mock draft. But not any mock draft where we know the outcome. This mock draft has trades. Several trades.

Today’s mock draft comes from Sporting News’ Vinnie Iyer and as said above, it has trades. The wheeling and dealing starts with the very first pick where the Oakland Raiders clinch the first overall pick and take Kyler Murray. That would mean Derek Carr is out as quarterback. That’s certainly a way to start things. The Cardinals in return get two of the Raiders first rounders (four and 24).

The 49ers follow suit in a trade with the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins take Nick Bosa while the 49ers fall back to 13th and get Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver, a decent prize. Here’s what Iyer said about the pick:

“The 49ers always take defensive linemen to put somewhere we don’t expect on their defensive line. Oliver is the perfect player to join DeForest Buckner and Solomon Thomas because we have no idea how San Francisco will use him as an end-tackle/tackle-end.”

While I’d love Quinnen Williams, having Ed Oliver for what the 49ers would get in a trade (which isn’t disclosed) seems like a great turn of events. I doubt there’s much of a “pairing” with Solomon Thomas. Oliver is there to take Thomas’ job. This trade can let the 49ers plug quite a few holes with Miami going from 13th all the way up to get Nick Bosa. With any luck, this could have three of the four defensive line spots figured out with the edge-rusher a wild card, provided the 49ers can answer the question of their guy on the right side.

What do you think of this draft and turn of events?
