Well then, maybe this is why Arizona was so adamant about wanting Murray with the first pick in the draft.

Sure! The Arizona Cardinals could have ruined the surprise over the weekend and now prepare to take Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray with the first pick of the 2019 NFL Draft. Or, maybe they started drumming up interest for a quarterback needy team to give them a boatload of picks and three Hawaiian Islands as compensation. And that’s where the logic behind today’s mock draft comes from.

The LA Times’ Sam Farmer put together a mock draft where the Oakland Raiders move up four spots in exchange for their fourth and 27th selection and with that pick the Raiders take Kyler Murray.

So this leaves the San Francisco 49ers Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa, right? Ehhhh, not so fast. Rather than Bosa, Farmer has the 49ers taking Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams (haven’t heard that name in awhile). Here’s what he says about the pick:

It’s almost inconceivable that a 300-pound man can move that fast. The 49ers need someone to get to the quarterback.

The real winners of this would be the New York Jets, who land Bosa at No. 3. To fill out the 2019 big three, Josh Allen goes at No. 5 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Five? Yep, the Cardinals, at No. 4 take Michigan defensive end Rashan Gary over Josh Allen.

Quinnen Williams showed how fast he is for a big guy. He’s faster than Jimmy Garoppolo if you want a comparison. As far as the 49ers taking him, that’s all going to depend on the Solomon Thomas experiment going on with the front office.

Time will tell, but this is an interesting, yet possible, turn of events.
