The 49ers this week worked out UCLA tackle Kolton Miller and Florida State edge defender Josh Sweat, according to a report from Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.

Miller (6-9, 310) is considered one of the best tackles in the draft and could go as early as the first round in the upcoming NFL draft.

He tested well at the combine, posting some of the best numbers among offensive linemen in the 40-yard dash (4.95 seconds), vertical jump (31.5 inches), broad jump (121 inches), three-cone drill (7.34 seconds) and 20-yard shuttle (4.49 seconds).

Millers’ athleticism is enticing considering the premium Kyle Shanahan puts on the mobility of his offensive linemen. The team might look for a tackle with Joe Staley turning 34 before the season and Trent Brown coming off shoulder surgery. Brown is unsigned beyond the coming season.

Sweat (6-4, 251) is a physically gifted speed rusher the 49ers could use along the edge. He’s expected to be a Day 2 pick. The team recently added free agent Jeremiah Attaochu, who will compete with Cassius Marsh, Arik Armstead and Eli Harold for the “Leo” defensive end spot.

Sweat was one of the most coveted recruits in the country but didn’t have a college career that lived to his billing. He logged 14.5 sacks over three seasons and finished last year with Pro Football Focus’ 68th-best pass rushing productivity rating among edge defenders.

Still, Sweat’s athleticism is enticing. He ran a blistering 4.53 at the combine and jumped 39.5 inches in the vertical.
