A core injury limited 49ers first-round pick Nick Bosa to just three games his junior year at Ohio State. He had surgery to repair that core muscle and elected to sit out the year instead of returning in late December. The good news for San Francisco is that injury isn’t going to limit Bosa at all in the offseason program. General manager John Lynch said in a post-draft press conference that the No. 2 overall pick will participate in rookie offseason activities right away.

“He is. I guess we’re the beneficiary of him taking the year,” Lynch said of Bosa’s decision to not return for the end of his junior season at Ohio State. “He’s healthy. He’s ready to go. We’ll have a rookie mini-camp this coming weekend, and he’ll be ready to roll.”

Injuries were one of the only on-field concerns about Bosa, but he made it clear in the pre-draft process that he was healthy, and participated fully at the NFL combine.

There haven’t been any signs of residual effects of that injured core muscle. He also dealt with a groin injury early in his junior campaign. Neither of those ailments appear to be an issue moving forward, and the 49ers will have their No. 2 pick available for the entire offseason program. Getting him involved as soon as possible will ensure he maximizes his effectiveness right away. That’s a huge early-season win for San Francisco.
