The San Francisco 49ers used the right of first refusal tender on restricted free agent Raheem Mostert, and now will wait and see what the free agent market brings before we know his future with the organization. He has until April 19th sign an offer sheet with a new team — which the 49ers could choose to match.
On Friday, Mostert’s agent offered some clarification on Mostert’s situation.
After discussions with the San Francisco 49ers about a multi-year deal for RB Raheem Mostert, we decided to take the Restricted tender and look forward to a great 2019.

The two sides discussed an extension but would appear to not be on the same page as far as value is concerned. Mostert will be able to go to other teams and try and negotiate a multi-year contract. If he can’t find what he considers sufficient value, he will play the year on a $2,025,000 salary. That is a $1.32 million pay raise from last season, so it is certainly not chump change. He would then be an unrestricted free agent next offseason.
I’m curious to see if there is much of any market for him. He’s a special teams standout, and there is always room for such a player. However, he is not looking at big money in that role. He showed some signs as a running back this year, but the running back position seems regularly undervalued these days. I would not be surprised to see Mostert playing this year on the tender and seeing what next year can bring him.
