The 49ers’ roster is loaded. Question marks under center loom over a very talented group though since shoddy quarterback play can ultimately undo even the most talented team.
We began the exercise of ranking the 49ers’ position groups with the idea there’d be a couple tough decisions on where to place each group. It turns out it’s much harder than that.
Great top-end talent followed by some question marks of varying sizes define almost every position for San Francisco. Trying to weigh experience, potential, star power and quality of depth becomes an almost impossible exercise since the 49ers have so many good players atop the depth chart.
There’s a couple positions that definitely go near the top, and a couple that are certainly toward the bottom. Everything in between can be mixed and matched.
We’ll rework these rankings a couple times throughout the year, but this is what it looks like going into the 2022 season:
