A multi-year contract was the only roadblock in the 49ers’ acquisition of edge rusher Dee Ford in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs. ESPN’s Josina Anderson reported the two sides have agreed on a five-year deal worth $87.5 million.
The $17.5 million average annual value would make Ford the third-highest paid linebacker in the league behind Khalil Mack and Von Miller. It puts him just ahead of CJ Mosley who agreed to a $17 million-per-year contract with the Jets on Tuesday.
That number also comes in well above the $15.4 million Ford would’ve made on the franchise tag with the Chiefs this season.
