A meeting was lined up this week, now we know it was on Friday

The San Francisco 49ers are still looking for that pass rusher they can pair opposite Dee Ford /take double teams off DeForest Buckner, and they just hosted one of the better known ones on Friday. Rotoworld and NBC Sports writer Josh Norris reports that the 49ers met with Mississippi State defensive end Montez Sweat on Friday.

This isn’t the first workout the 49ers staff would have gotten with Sweat. Kyle Shanahan and Robert Saleh worked with Sweat at the Senior Bowl in January. Shanahan’s staff coached the South team which Sweat was a part of.

Sweat is a possible top-10 pick and if the 49ers find themselves trading back out of the No. 2 spot, that puts him into the conversation. For those of you unfamiliar with him, here’s his draft card at Draft Network. He had a good Combine also with the fastest 40 time among defensive lineman (4.41).

Sweat would fit into a 4-3 defense, which the 49ers happen to run. He’s not a No. 2 pick (unless he were to do something to impress everyone in the building), but if the 49ers find a way out of their second pick for 2019, there’s some arguments to be had.
