The 49ers’ road to the postseason could face a sturdy roadblock late in the year. Doug Mouton of CBS New Orleans posted a leaked Saints schedule on Twitter that indicates San Francisco will be in the Big Easy in Week 14.

The 49ers last faced the Saints in a 2016 showdown at Levi’s Stadium. New Orleans notched a 43-21 victory. Their last matchup in New Orleans was a 27-24 overtime victory for the 49ers. Neither team has won back-to-back games in this matchup since the Saints won six in a row between 2002 and 2010.

If San Francisco is in the playoff hunt, and they do play the Saints in Week 14, it’ll be a very good late-season measuring stick for a rebuilding 49ers club. If they can go into the Superdome and play well, it bodes well for their chances if they do make the postseason. Winning in New Orleans isn’t easy, but there’s a very real chance any playoff path the 49ers might find themselves on will run through there.

Getting the Saints late in the year is a tough draw, especially since that’ll be the time of year one of the Super Bowl favorites is gearing up for the postseason. It should be an excellent test for the 49ers – they just need to make sure they’re taking a mostly healthy team with them.
