The team continues to look members in the secondary

The San Francisco 49ers aren’t done looking at the cornerback position, apparently. We figured there was going to be a lot of competition opposite Richard Sherman. The team signed Jason Verrett on a prove it deal during free agency. Bringing in a draft pick later on makes sense as well to really solidify the depth of the position.

On Saturday, the team worked out CB Jimmy Moreland of James Madison, per Aaron Wilson. Moreland played on the South team in January at the Senior Bowl. The same team that the 49ers coached. You may not be familiar with Moreland—as James Madison is an FCS school—who was an All-American in 2018. As a Senior, Moreland had five interceptions as well as 15 pass breakups. If the teams plan is truly to get someone to take the ball away, he’s the guy.

If you watch Moreland’s highlights, you can see that he may have gotten a couple gifts thrown to him. Still, you can’t fake that type of production on the ball. Moreland played very well at the East/West shrine game—another all-star event—and was called up to the Senior Bowl. Moreland continued to receive praise at the Senior Bowl, where Deebo Samuel said Moreland was the best CB he faced all week. Moreland measured at 5’11, 175 pounds.
