Antonio Brown’s desire to land in the Bay Area will be fulfilled according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Adam Schefter. They both reported a verbal agreement between the Steelers and Raiders involving the All-Pro wide receiver.

Oakland will also make Brown the highest-paid receiver in the league, guaranteeing him $30.125 million over three years, with the deal reaching up to $50.125 per Schefter.

It’s easy to see why the 49ers wouldn’t get involved in this trade. They don’t have a fifth-round pick, so they would’ve had to come with a third and a fourth. That’s a steep price to pay for any player who’ll be 31 at the start of a season, especially when San Francisco only has six picks in this year’s draft.

They have the salary cap space to withstand the type of deal Brown is set to receive, but it’s questionable whether San Francisco values the wide receiver position enough to shell out top dollar for one on the back end of his prime.

Brown can certainly still play, but after seeing the reported trade compensation and contract, it’s easy to see why the 49ers didn’t make trade for him despite his desire to play in San Francisco.
