NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is nearing his return on Thursday morning on Good Morning Football:
He has been back at practice this week on a limited basis. He actually practiced at the end of last week, too. Did very, very little dealing with that turf toe, essentially a sprained toe. Also, a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder that is less problematic.
Because of it being his second week of practice for Purdy. Basically, him getting to a point he has reached a zone where he’ll be able to play. It certainly seems like he’s got a real chance to be back on the field for the 49ers, who have unbelievably kept winning since he has been out. Certainly something to keep an eye on since he has been out. But some positivity there.
If we assume the 49ers defense will take a step back without Nick Bosa, it’s fair to do the same and believe the offense gets a boost with its starting quarterback back in the fold. If Purdy can play, he’ll get Ricky Pearsall, Demarcus Robinson, and hopefully Jauan Jennings on the field this week to throw to.
The 49ers were able to get by with a backup quarterback, but they’ll need Purdy, especially against teams upcoming on the schedule like the Rams and the Buccaneers.
