Mitchell, 29, who was released by the Dolphins this week in a salary cap move, has visits scheduled with the 49ers, Seahawks, Falcons and Broncos, the NFL Network reported. Last year, Mitchell sustained a calf injury, but the Dolphins activated from injured reserve to play in their final nine games. Niners defensive line coach Jeff Zgonina was a defensive assistant with the Texans when Mitchell played for Houston in 2013. In 2016, the 49ers’ 32nd-ranked defense set an NFL record by allowing 100-yard rushers in seven straight games and surrendered the sixth-most rushing yards (2,654) since 1990.
