Best. case. Scenario.

For awhile now there has been speculation surrounding current Arizona Cardinals QB Josh Rosen. The team just took Rosen in the first round last year. It wasn’t a late round pick. It was the 10th overall selection. Here we are—one season alter— and Arizona is already moving on from him. That alone should be a red flag when an offensive genius like Kliff Kingsbury doesn’t want anything to do with a guy. That’s for an entirely different discussion, though.

There have been multiple reports saying that the Cardinals have received three offers. The latest report suggests that the New England Patriots, the Los Angeles Chargers, and the New York Giants have all shown interest. Joe Klatt, Colin Cowherd, and Benjamin Allbright are the reporters. They’re not exactly Adam Schefter, but they have an audience and that matters. Cowherd is saying that the Giants offered their second round pick. Allbright is saying the Chargers did. None of that means anything to us. What we care is what this means in regards to the Niners.

What this means

If the Cardinals can’t move Rosen, they’ll likely pass on Kyler Murray. I’ve been told that Arizona wants to move on from Rosen, it’s just about getting the best deal possible. They want a first round pick, but it’s not likely that they’ll get one. So if Arizona stays at #1, they’ll take Nick Bosa. That means that the 49ers will have their phones ringing off the hook for Murray. Whether that’s the Giants, Raiders, or another QB needy team.

If the Cards are able to move Rosen and select Murray, then the 49ers get their pick of the best player in the draft. There is still the opportunity to trade back and gain more picks. Honestly, there’s not really a situation that isn’t ideal for the Niners. Which situation would you prefer?
