SANTA CLARA Former general Trent Baalke has found a job with the league office.

Baalke, who was fired in January after six years as general manager, has been hired as a football operations consultant, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. In his role, Baalke, will work on such things as player development and evaluation, as well as officiating video review, Schefter wrote.

His job seems similar to the one former Giants coach Tom Coughlin had last season. The Jaguars hired Coughlin as their executive vice president in January.

When his 49ers job appeared to be in jeopardy last season Baalke seemed confident he quickly would land a position evaluating talent with another team. San Francisco’s incoming general manager, John Lynch, has been busy revamping the 49ers’ roster.

Only 35 players who were with San Francisco last season remain on the 90-man squad.
