Just a smidge more than a third-round cornerback would have cost

The San Francisco 49ers signed cornerback Rock Ya-Sin, who comes with starting experience and won’t have to be brought along as would have been the case with whoever the team selected on Day 2 of the NFL Draft.

The Niners’ third-round pick this year will cost them $1.05 million. Ya-Sin is a smidge more expensive, as his cap number for 2024 is $1.15 million per Over the Cap. San Francisco will have to spend over a million dollars to release Ya-Sin, so the 28-year-old is all but guaranteed to make the roster, barring anything unforeseen.

Ya-Sin was given $71,250 as his prorated signing bonus. That’s what he’ll receive for making the roster. He also has a $25,000 workout bonus in his contract. Finally, the guaranteed money Ya-Sin will receive is $985,000.

According to Over the Cap, the 49ers will spend $11.05 million to sign their rookie class. As of this writing, the team has $6.49 million in cap space. As we know, an extension could clear some space. But this might be why the 49ers trade up multiple times in the NFL Draft with the number of picks they have.

Ya-Sin, Isaac Yiadom, Deommodore Lenoir, Charvarius Ward, and Darrell Luter Jr. are the team’s cornerbacks who will make the roster this upcoming season.
