That tweet man…that tweet

Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks have agreed to an extension. This news comes not from a league insider, say Adam Schefter or Ian Rapoport. No, it comes from this:

And you thought Mr. Big Chest was strange.

Adam Schefter reports the deal is a 4-year, $140 million extension. The deal includes a $65 million signing bonus. The money puts Wilson at the top of the NFL quarterback hierarchy and the league itself. as the NFL’s highest paid player. According to Ian Rapoport, the deal also has a no-trade clause.

One year ago, the same could be said about San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

There will be time to sort out all the money on the deal. As you know these things get broken down and there could be incententives and other language in the contract but for now, Wilson got paid.

The Wilson/Seattle drama had a deadline set at midnight, April 15th. Afterwards he wouldn’t be signing an extension. It appears that the extension was penned out at the very last minute as news of this came out around 12:30 on Twitter. Wilson got his extension and the Seahawks get their quarterback.

And so, Wilson stays in the NFC West and will be the quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks through the 2023 season.
