The 49ers have the ninth-overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft, which potentially puts them in the line of fire for teams potentially trading up to find their next franchise quarterback.

Friday, the Bills became as good a candidate as anyone. They traded signal caller Tyrod Taylor to the Browns for a third-round pick, leaving a void under center as they trudge into the offseason, making it likely they try finding a player in next month’s draft.

For San Francisco, it must consider moving back for more draft capital to continue bolstering multiple areas of the roster.

The team last year traded back one spot from pick No. 2 to 3 for a package that included multiple third round picks, which ultimately gave them the capital to trade back into Round 1 for Reuben Foster. Later, they traded a third-rounder to New Orleans for a 2018 second-rounder, which allowed them to move their own second-round pick for Jimmy Garoppolo.

John Lynch, Kyle Shanahan and Paraag Marathe have proven the value of trading back in the draft for more assets.

Here are the Bills’ picks, including two in the first round after moving back in a deal with Kansas in the 2017 draft to take Patrick Mahomes.

The teams could get creative to help Buffalo find a quarterback and give the 49ers the assets they need to restock the roster. Keep an eye on the Bills.
