It’s never a bad time to appreciate Steve Young’s athleticism. NFL Throwback posted a video of some of the Hall of Famer’s most memorable runs, which seemingly prompted a response from Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu.

Here’s the video, which is remarkable:

Mathieu then took to Twitter to fire off a take on the former 49ers’ quarterback:

It’s hard to argue with Mathieu. Young is never talked about as one of the all-time great running quarterbacks despite being one of five quarterbacks to rush for over 4,000 yards with 4,239 in his career – fifth-most all-time. He’s one of three quarterbacks with at least 500 career rushes to go over 5.5 yards-per-carry. Michael Vick and Randall Cunningham are the other two.

The fact Young isn’t often lauded for his prowess as a runner is a testament to how good he was throwing the ball. He finished his career as a three-time All-Pro and a seven-time Pro Bowler. Young posted a career 64.3 percent completion rate, with a 96.8 rating and 8.0 yards-per-attempt.

While Young may be underrated as a runner, it’s because he was so outstanding in every other facet. That doesn’t make it less fun to remember how incredible he was on the ground though.
