The 49ers second round selection is down to two numbers

Other than finalize their undrafted free agents, the next thing the San Francisco 49ers need to do is sign their rookies to contracts and assign jersey numbers. The trade of linebacker Dekoda Watson opened the door for first round selection Nick Bosa to wear No. 97. I’ve seen people complain “where’s the respect for Bryant Young”, as if Watson didn’t just wear the number last year. That’s silly.

As for the second round selection, Samuel took to Instagram this afternoon to ask fans what jersey number he should wear.

Having worn No. 1 at South Carolina, Samuel would have to wear something in the teens or the 80’s. With slim pickings, he’s down to No. 17 or 19.

I reached out to him and let him know that we would vote. I don’t know what sort of impact we’ll have on his decision, but if a player sees a poll that’s slanted in one direction heavily, he might take that into account. Who knows? Here’s a poll. You decide:

These aren’t the most aesthetically pleasing numbers, but it’s where he’s at with things.

Roster moves and Niners news

The 49ers also announced that they waived 7 players:

WR Steven Dunbar Jr.

DB Godwin Igwebuike

CB Tarvarus McFadden

LB James Onwualu

WR Jordan Smallwood

P Justin Vogel

S Terrell Williams Jr.

Phase Two of the 49ers offseason program begins today as well. For the first time, all coaches are allowed on the field to work with players. Individual and walk-through plays are allowed, but there can be no offense vs. defense, no one-on-ones and no helmets. Phase Two lasts three weeks.
