The 49ers have needs on both sides of the ball, and they can be patient with their second round pick.

The San Francisco 49ers could surprise us when their No. 2 overall pick arrives in April, but mock drafts will continue focusing on Josh Allen and Quinnen Williams, with an occasional helping of Nick Bosa. We’ll continue analyzing first round mock drafts, but for today, we’ll pass on that to a certain extent.

We are starting to see more two-, three-, and four-round mock drafts, so we can start to see what people think the 49ers might do as the draft moves into day two. There are plenty of mock drafts out there, but for now, here are six mock drafts that include a second-round pick for the 49ers.

SB Nation: Kelvin Harmon, WR, NC State
NFL.com (Reuter): Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, DB, Florida
Draft Wire: Trayvon Mullen, CB, Clemson
Draft Site: Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, DB, Florida
NBC Sports Washington: Mack Wilson, LB, Alabama
Draft Tek: Elgton Jenkins, C, Mississippi State

The 49ers will land a big-time defensive option at No. 2. They could surprise us and go in a different direction, but Bosa, Allen, and Williams seem like the front-runners. That being said, it will not preclude the team from spending the No. 36 overall pick in the second round on another defensive player.

You can make arguments for all of these players. It is worth noting that Gardner-Johnson is viewed more as either a nickel back or free safety in the mold of Jimmie Ward, while Mullen seems more like an outside corner. Harmon brings some serious size and strong hands to the outside. Wilson seems like he could be a solid option to pair with Fred Warner at the second level of the defense. Finally, Jenkins is listed as a center but played all but right guard during his college career. If he can project into a guard spot, he could compete for a spot inside.

Things are pretty wide open at this point for the 49ers in the second round. Barring any dealing, they’re in a position to really go best player available. I don’t see them moving back into the first round given their limited number of total picks, but this is a draft with considerable talent from the middle of the first round to the middle of the second round. There is value to be found at a host of positions.
