There are some great players, but there just isn’t a sliver of possibility that they are going to go to the 49ers.

The San Francisco 49ers draft has been somewhat consistent on who they will be taking at No. 2. Well, as far as mock drafts are concerned. There’s Nick Bosa, Quinnen Williams and Josh Allen making the rounds and it’s safe to assume that one of those three will be called on draft day.

But who do you wish the 49ers could get? Well, who they could get but we all know they just aren’t in a position to get. We’ve already talked about players you’d be fine with the 49ers taking at No. 2 if they aren’t the above names, but what about players you know they just aren’t going to take? You wish you could have them, but you know it’s not happening.

I was on the 49ers reddit and saw that particular question and thought it made for a good discussion. There’s a lot of players in the draft I’d love to see with the 49ers an in their respective systems, but it’s just not going to happen.

The big one is Ole Miss wide receiver D.K. Metcalf. Yes, the 49ers could still draft him if a specific trade opens him up, but we all probably can agree it’s just not happening at this point. He’s quite intriguing, but he’s not going at No. 2, he might not even go at No. 6 if the 49ers make a trade. That said, I’d love to see what he could do in Kyle Shanahan’s offense. I love the comparisons made to Calvin Johnson, and I’d love having a demon wide receiver. Despite the name, Shanahan has done a good job spreading the ball around to anyone not named George Kittle, so I don’t know just how much his numbers would inflate. Then again, we all know what Shanahan did with Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones, so the combo of Metcalf and Kittle sounds apocalyptic. It’s just not happening.

Beyond that, I would love Iowa’s Noah Fant. I said I was interested in him with the second overall, but that was intrigue. He’s someone I’d love on the 49ers, but given their current situation it’s just not happening. Like the Metcalf situation, can you just see him and Kittle crossing around on the field bulldozing linebackers? That would be something. If the 49ers had Odell Beckham Jr. in that trade along with this guy, I’m not sure how you stop that pass game. Again, at No. 2, Fant just isn’t coming to the 49ers, at least not in the situation they find themselves in.

Who’s the guy you want, but you just know the 49ers won’t draft him?
