It has to be a receiver, doesn’t it?

History tells us that San Francisco general manager John Lynch will make a trade at some point during the NFL Draft. Is there a player out there that will fall into the 20’s that will tempt Lynch to trade back into the first-round? There has to be.

Earlier today, it was reported that the 49ers didn’t have a great meeting with Ole Miss WR D.K. Metcalf. Before that, I wondered if the team would fall for the talented wide out. I also wonder if his usage—only running a few routes and never in the slot—turned Kyle Shanahan off.

In my opinion, trading up for a wide receiver—especially in this class—doesn’t make much sense. We’ve seen teams do strange things time and time again. Not just when it comes to quarterbacks, either. Tonight could be very telling. Most defensive backs are being mocked in the 20-range. That’s where the “run on defensive backs” is expected to happen. If the 49ers truly covet a Greedy Williams, or Juan Thornhill, they might be tempted to trade back into the first.

The other Ole Miss WR has been a popular connection, especially considering Jerry Rice took him to “the hill.” If not A.J. Brown or Hakeem Butler, a sneaky option is Iowa TE Noah Fant, who visited the 49ers. We will know in a few hours, but if it were up to you, is there a player that you would trade back into the first-round for?
